A crown is a lifeline for a tooth that has become broken or damaged through decay and or trauma.

Once crowned, a functionally compromised tooth will be protected from further damage that may well have otherwise led to treatment such as a tooth extraction.

Like all of the restorations, we offer here at Forest Dental, our crowns are made with the utmost skill and diligence. In our eyes, crowns should not only be durable and highly functional, but beautiful works of art too.

How will a crown benefit me?

  • Crowns can provide aesthetic and function to a tooth post-root canal treatment.
  • Your crown is made to be unique to you; you will barely be able to distinguish between your crown and teeth that have not undergone restorative treatment.
  • Crowns address the issue of advanced decay.
  • Our dentists and dental technicians here in Blackwood take great pride in planning and fitting crowns. Your crown will be made with precise dexterity and skill.

What can I expect when getting a crown created and fitted?

Before treatment commences, we will identify whether it’s possible to treat your tooth with a less involved treatment, such as a filling, inlay or onlay. If this is not possible, we will proceed with crowning your tooth.

Planning

Impressions of your tooth and the neighbouring teeth either side are taken. This information will help our dental technician to produce a crown that is cohesive with your smile as a whole. Your tooth shade and the size, shape and contours that make your teeth unique will also be useful information that our technician will draw on when designing your crown.

Preparing your tooth

Your tooth is prepared by removing some tooth tissue. This makes it possible for your crown to fit over the entirety of the damaged tooth. We will fit you with a temporary crown whilst your permanent crown is being made.

Fitting your crown

Once your crown is ready, you will be invited to attend a fitting appointment. Your crown will be adhered with a robust cement and should last over 10 years with good care.

What type of materials are used to make my crown?

Some of the common materials we used to create crowns for our patients include porcelain, gold, ceramics and zirconia. The type of materials used to fabricate your crowns will depend on factors such as the condition of the tooth that requires treatment and where it sits in your mouth.
