In many cases, it’s possible to save it with root canal treatment. Our dentists here in Blackwood are particularly experienced at carrying out root canal treatment, which you may also have heard referred to as endodontic treatment.
Root canal treatment removes infected matter at the heart of a tooth. The tooth is then sealed back up again to protect it from reinfection. In some instances, a crown is fitted to ensure the functionality and aesthetic of the tooth in the long term. This is normally necessary for back teeth such as molars, as opposed to front teeth which are under less biting pressure. However, if discolouration has occurred, we may place a crown on a front tooth, to restore its appearance.

The best way to avoid a dental infection caused by decay is never to miss a routine dentist appointment. Wearing a custom made mouth guard during contact sports will help to stop trauma from occurring and cutting off the blood supply to your tooth, which would otherwise require root canal treatment.
