Our clinicians here in Blackwood love to work with kids and enjoy helping them to develop habits that will last their whole life long.
We will work with you, the parent, and your child, to help you undertake the ongoing practice of instilling good oral health habits, which starts at home.
We are a judgment-free group of clinicians who know exactly how tough it can be to get kids to understand that teeth need looking after! It’s incredibly important to us that parents feel comfortable asking for advice on diet, brushing duration, tips on how to deliver positive reinforcement, or whatever it might be.
We recommend that your child sees a dentist when their first tooth comes through. Whilst it’s true that it’s common for children not to open their mouths during their first couple of check-ups, these are vital for building up their confidence and developing an early rapport with their dentist, here in Blackwood.
What will my child’s dentist check for during their appointments?
Our dentists will help support your child’s journey towards independently looking after their teeth, by actively encouraging them and rewarding their successes.
Kids with baby and adult teeth can benefit from fluoride varnish, which fortifies their tooth enamel and renders them less vulnerable to cavities.
We may suggest fissure sealants, which cover the chewing surfaces on the back of your child’s teeth. These can be placed when your child reaches the age of 6 or 7 and help to keep bacteria and food particles from lingering.
Should we find your child’s dental composition developing abnormally, we may suggest the use of braces to guide their teeth into a healthier position.
